The North Shore of Oahu is fortunate to have so many stunning wedding venues, including one of my personal favorites, Sunset Ranch. Sunset Ranch is a magical wedding venue where you’re immersed in gorgeous natural beauty and surrounded by picturesque views, including the ocean and mountains along the northwest side of the island.

North Shore Oahu Wedding Venues: What You Need to Know About Planning Your Wedding at Sunset Ranch
Sunset Ranch is a beautiful 30-acre property with an estate venue you’ll find along the North Shore. They have a native Hawaiian plants conservation as well as a mission for land conservation and sustainability that I love. You’ll find this venue is in the heart of Pupukea, on the North Shore of Oahu.
The venue is quite large, so you could have a big, grand affair here, but it is also the perfect spot for an intimate gathering with a few loved ones if that’s more of what you’re looking for! Another thing that makes this venue special is that it happens to be one of the only estates in Hawaii that is protected by federal, state, and county grant funding in order to advance its mission of land conservation and sustainability in Hawaii!
They also have all-inclusive wedding packages and have truly thought of everything you could need to have a stress-free, incredible wedding experience!

Lauren and Alan’s Stunning Spring Wedding at Sunset Ranch
Lauren and Alan planned an elegant spring wedding at Sunset Ranch, and every part of their day was so dreamy and romantic, from Lauren’s gorgeous wedding florals to Lauren and Alan’s emotional first look, and their special private cake cutting in Fern’s garden at sunset!
Here’s a behind-the-lens look into more of their day:
Background on the couple
Alan and Lauren originally met in DC in 2018, briefly dated, and then they actually ended up calling it quits. Fast forward a year, and they happened to be on the same flight from DC to SF and ended up reconnecting on that flight – how special is that? As the saying goes, if two people are meant to be together, they’ll find each other again, and that couldn’t have been truer for Alan and Lauren!
Alan was living in Santa Barbara at the time, while Lauren was in DC, so they were dating long-distance for about a year until COVID hit. Lauren then decided to fly to Santa Barbara and work remotely. She was intending to stay for only a couple of weeks, but ended up staying forever, and the rest is history!

Wedding planning
Lauren grew up in Hawaii and knew that she always wanted to get married there – the biggest question on her mind was where? Alan and Lauren discovered Sunset Ranch and immediately fell in love with the venue.
During our consultation call, Alan mentioned to me that he has a small immediate family, being just him and his mom, so his friends are very important to him. From that call, I knew to pay attention to his groomsmen and other friends and capture many great, loving, fun candid shots of them with Alan.
It was clear Alan viewed his groomsmen as brothers, which was very valuable for me to know beforehand.
If we work together, our consultation call is where I want you to share everything about yourself and your partner that you feel comfortable sharing because you are worth getting to know, and a human connection helps me serve you better!
This is the time for you to share how you met, how long you’ve been together, your wedding vision, your favorite part about each other, the moments you want me to pay the most attention to throughout your day and photograph, and more!

Getting ready
Lauren and Alan got ready separately, and Lauren got ready with her bridesmaids, her mother, and brother, and then shared a heartfelt first look with her dad. Once both Lauren and Alan were ready, we headed to the grounds to meet Alan, where they both shared an unforgettable and sweet first look together.

The ceremony and reception
Then it was time for the ceremony! Lauren and Alan had their ceremony in Fern’s garden, a gorgeous space on the estate, underneath the trees and surrounded by nature. Alan’s mom walked him down the aisle, and Lauren had both her mother and father walk her down the aisle.
They had an emotional, sweet ceremony where a few tears were shed and where many tender hugs were shared with their guests afterward. You could feel how much love everyone had for these two! Their day wrapped up with their reception underneath a tent, where they ended their celebration dancing the night away with their guests.

My favorite moments from Lauren and Alan’s day
Lauren and Alan had so many special moments from their day, but my absolute favorite moments were their intimate, sweet first look and at the end of the ceremony when their wedding party and family hugged and congratulated them.
I also loved their private cake cutting in Fern’s garden at sunset, as it was a fun and thoughtful way for them to be fully present in the moment.
